Bernardita F. Federico, MLS


Bernardita Flores Federico is the youngest in the family; she was born in San Gabriel, Pamplona, Camarines Sur.  An alumna of both San Gabriel Elementary School and San Isidro High School, she graduated from the University of Nueva Caceres in Bachelor of Science Education major in Library Science in 1995.After college, she worked at the Hope Christian School as a librarian.

 

In 1998, she transferred to Ateneo de Naga University, James O’Brien Library as Circulation Librarian. After a year, she was assigned at the Cataloging Section of the library as Cataloger.  Because of her exemplary performance she was granted a scholarship to pursue a Master’s Degree in Library Science at the University of Nueva Caceres in 2002. She completed her M.A. in 2006, with her paper entitled “Collaboration of Interlibrary Cooperation among Academic Libraries in Camarines Sur: Profile, Practices and Prospects.” This study is now a springboard for the BRLC’s Project Bicol Consortium of Academic Libraries.  

 

She was appointed as Head of the Technical Services of the Ateneo de Naga University in 2005. From then on, she led the library computerization of various unit libraries in the university.  As a result, an online union catalog of books and other information sources of the university were produced.  Painstakingly, with the help of the IT staff, she completed the data migration from Follet to TLC.

 

Badet is also an active member of a professional association.  In fact, she was elected officer of the Bicol Region Librarians Council in 2012.  She served as auditor for two years.  As an active member, she helped all the projects of the association.

 

As librarian, she extends her service to colleagues in the region through the sharing of her expertise in cataloging and classification. Her skill in organization of collection through automation is remarkable. 

                    

Badet also shares her knowledge and skills through teaching. Badet is a part time teacher at the College of Education-Library and Information Science.  Among her students were those who topped the Librarian Licensure Examination.

                

It is due all these that the Philippine Librarians Association Inc. through the Bicol Region Librarians Council bestows this Oragon Librarian 2016 Award to Bernardita Flores Federico  in recognition of her dedicated service in the field of librarianship in Bicol.
